Sixth Circuit Accepts NIL Appeal Led by CMDA’s Jim Acho
CMDA Law partner Jim Acho is continuing his representation of former University of Michigan football players after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit accepted their appeal on October 6, 2026.
As reported by The Detroit News, the appeal follows the dismissal of the players’ proposed class action against the NCAA, Big Ten Conference and Big Ten Network. The lawsuit seeks $50 million in compensation for the alleged unauthorized, uncompensated use of their name, image and likeness (NIL).
The case involves hundreds of former Michigan football players, including Denard Robinson and Braylon Edwards. Their claims concern the commercial use of their NIL through activities such as game rebroadcasts and jersey sales.
“We are committed to getting the former Michigan players justice for decades of unlawful, uncompensated use of their names and images,” Jim told The Detroit News.
Jim’s work on the matter builds on his longstanding representation of athletes, including NFL Hall of Fame players in concussion-related litigation. He continues to pursue the former Michigan players’ claims through the appellate process.
